I am on a friend's laptop (Compaq Presario 2200) with XP Home service pack 2 on it. When he turns it on, it stops at the point where he has the blue screen and he has to click on his name to go the rest of the way.

I had the same problem with mine, please see link here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=56021&highlight=justitia So I tried to use the same solution I used on mine as indicated in this and this post on that thread.

However it screwed up... (I knew it would....)

    The link said:

    **********************

When I ran the program "control users password 2" as suggested in the link, up came the window that said "administrator" in users with password and confirmed password blank. I unchecked the box as stated in step 2 above and clicked apply.

However, what was different was that his computer had 2 users in the administrator group, one called "administrator" and one under his name. Usually when he turns on the computer it loads to a point where it is the blue screen and his name is the only option to click to get XP to laod the rest of the way.

Now after what I did, now there is an error message that says that windows can't process because of some problem. I will have to turn off and on the computer again to see exactly what it says and report here. But then I click OK on that message box. And then the laptop copntinues to the blue page with his name and I have to click on it as always to get it to load the rest of the way.

I would like to get rid of what I did and make the computer load properly and fully to his user.

I put spybot on as a protection and I went to the log to see what it said. This is what I found:

5/28/2007 3:31:54 PM Allowed value "DefaultUserName" (new data: "Administrator") changed in Winlogon!
5/28/2007 3:32:01 PM Allowed value "DefaultPassword" (new data: "") deleted in Winlogon!

I tried to run the "control users password 2" again to see if I could undo anything but I was too scared at this point to change anything.

Can anyone help....pleeeze!!!! I guess I know just enough about computers to be dangerous... :(
