    Hi all,

I have just bought a new laptop, and it comes with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. When I first bought a new laptop (approx 1.5-2 years ago), also with Vista home premium, I had Vista Sidebar as the gadget thing, but in my new one I have Google Desktop.. Has the Vista Sidebar been replaced with the Google one? Or has the manufacturer (Toshiba) just put on the Google one instead?
Which is better if they're both still competing?
    Thanks

A lot of manufacturers are putting google desktop preloaded into their computers. I personally don't use either Windows Sidebar or Google desktop. I have no use for the features they offer when I can get all I need from the search section of the start menu. You will find that you do indeed have Windows Sidebar installed, but that google is set to start with the computer not Windows Sidebar.

I agree with andy, both Google Desktop and Vista Sidebar are considerably heavy in resource use and do not provide any interesting functionality in return.

Personally, I would uninstall Google Desktop and not activate Vista Sidebar. You will appreciate the extra screen space and have a faster system.

Its Toshiba. Google desktop was on my Toshiba but was not on my HP. That one had Vista sidebar. You can change it to Vista if you'd like. Just go the start, accessories, vista sidebar.

Or just type sidebar after hitting the Win key.

Ahk thanks guys. I had turned it off in my first laptop and never missed it, so I doubt I'll keep it this time. I would have kept Google if it was a little nicer on resource use, but if that's not the case then there's no point in it.

    Thanks for the fast replies.

many of the manufactures put Google desktop and many put sidebar.

if you want a side bar you can download the vista sidebar from the internet .

these third party softwares are used to make the vista lucrative and so added many features, i do not use the vista.
