I am not sure if there is a free good software to free up some RAM space. I have T43 2687 DDU (512RAM) and read all the free software threads but seems like nothing for RAM. My biggest problem with my laptop is my system slows down (bugs) after an about three days. I use my laptop everyday for over 12 hours, mostly surfing on the internet and such without shutting down the system but after a coulple days, I notice the system excessively slows and freezes sometime. I run the Antivirus, Antispyware, and CCleaner and Defragent and everything but still the same result. So after all, I am forced to reformat the whole system to bring back to the normal speed. and my NHC says the CPU load is over 80% and RAM free is 8% now. I just reformated the system two days ago and reinstalled the programs. Can anyone help me to fix my problem and tell me why my laptop slows down without installing any new programs by surfing on the internet? Any comments on FreeRAM XP PRO or RAMBOOSTER or FREE RAM optimizer??? I am tired of reformatting the system every three days and reinstalling the whole programs. thanks guys

RAM boosters are really, just a waste of your time. They do optimize your system, but do you honestly want to wait for it to chug around, optimizing your RAM? I would suppose all three softwares would do around the same thing, but try following this guide: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
This guide gives instructions on optimizing Windows XP and ive it a go. If this doesn't help, then just pick up another 512mb stick (at least), it'll be worth it. This would permanently end your speed issues, in web surfing and tasks that aren't as straining on the processor. RAM prices are getting cheaper, and in my opinion, is much better than using a memory optimizer that really doesn't compare to that extra memory.

You're mixing two separate issues. Your RAM is reset every time you reboot. No matter how much RAM is used, if you restart, it's back to normal.
So reformatting has nothing to do with this. If your system slows down generally, even after you reboot, you have a *different* problem, which is nothing to do with how much free RAM you have.
1: They suck.
2: They don't solve your problem.
There already is one good RAM management program. It's called Windows XP. The so-called "RAM optimizers" do more harm than good. They force a lot of data to be pushed to the pagefile, which, yes, makes it look like you have lots of free memory... But it also means that every time your running programs need to access data, they have to wait for the OS to load it back into RAM from the pagefile. So congrats, you've just achieved a 1,000,000 times slowdown, without actually lowering your memory usage.
In other words, avoid them.
About your problem, the first thing you need to do is find out what's wrong.
If you have only a small amount of memory free, it just means that most of your memory is in use. That's not neccesarily a bad thing (and it sounds likely if you have 512 MB ram only).
Where exactly does your system slow down? Are we talking about boot time? Performance in games? Time taken to load a webpage? Time to load an application? Time to open the start menu, play around in Explorer and other Windows actions?
Does it make any difference when you reboot?
Once we know that, we can start guessing at where the problem occurs. Next step could be to list which processes are running.
And check CPU temperature to make sure nothing is overheating (or throttling to avoid overheating) -
thanks guys and "yes" the boot time is definitely the issue. Like I stated, I tend to ignore to shut down the system and keep using it for a couple of days. After a couple of days, start menu takes a while to open and even the webpages takes forever to open and sometimes freeze. So that's when I decide to shut down and reboot, but then it takes almost 5 minutes to open the windows. and again and again, I reboot but I get the same result. After I reformat the system, it goes back to normal, it takes a less than a minute to open the Windows. I am confused now. any other ways to keep my laptop be normal? thanks guys

Be careful how much junk you install, or let your browser install. I don't suppose you're using Internet Explorer? If so, don't. Also, don't visit websites that might install spyware/adware/viruses/anything else.
Can you list (or take a screenshot of) which processes are running on your computer?
Then open msconfig and check how many programs it tries to start when you boot your computer. -
Windows Task Manager says I have 61 processes running, and honestly I have no clue what they are for. But the stuff that taking much of space of Mem Usage are QCWLICON.EXE, QCTRAY.EXE, Firefox.exe(2webpages), vsmon.exe, ashServ.exe, svchost.exe, MsMpEmg.exe, explorer.exe. When I open MsConfig, it says 33 programs, and I disable ibmmessages and msmsgs, GoogleDesktop, Adobe Reader Spe. The rest, I'm afraid it might harm the system so I didn't touch it. thanks

Wow, that's a lot of processes for 512mb RAM. Don't install things that you really don't need and obviously, leaving the computer on for days make it extremely slow. as you've done heaps and the memory and cache are growing increasingly full. Try and shut it down everyday or two unless you have something really important to do.

You can Google any of those processes and get informed opinions as to whether or not you need them. i.e.
HELP ME with RAM software free!!!!
