    hello guys!

my brother was watching something online and suddenly the internet was so slow, he got pissed and slammed his palm on the laptop (center keyboard area). now it got deformed (an arch-like one) but everything works fine. Thing is windows took more than 10-15 min to get fully loaded. is the HDD faulty now because of the impact?

Dunno. But I suggest you to backup all of your data on an external hard disk before it's too late. In this way you could limit the damage to something that can be replaced with money.

Out of curiosity, how old is your brother?

But yeah, damage to the hdd is likely, seeing as he even manage to 'dent' the laptop. It might not die out immediately, but backup anyways to be safe.

Is it making any more noise than usual? Clicking?

There might be other reasons for slow startup, but I'd just be guessing.

Dunno about all laptops, but I've fixed one before and found there to be a stick of ram under the keyboard area, maybe thats borked, burn memtest 86+ to disc give that a bash, not saying that is the problem but worth a shot.

. What is the model of your laptop? Each model has a different layout underneath the keyboard

. Have you tried accessing the hard drive from an external housing?

. With luck, only loose connectors result in this slamming.

Might be worth running some diagnostics if you can on the disk.

HDTune will scan the drive for bad sectors, and will do an overall health check.

Also the manufacturer of the drive will probably have some sort of diagnotics tool you can download, this may be of use aswell.

I dropped my laptop a while ago, and went slow, like yours, and the disk got damaged, had some bad clusters.

Maybe steps 2 and 3 should be reversed, otherwise all your hard work fixing the laptop might come to naught if brother hasn't learned to control his anger yet! :D

LOL...well, he has bad temper. I took the HDD out, it was kinda stuck in there because of the laptop deformation. i also tried to format it and installed new windows. this time, windows could not be installed due to some unknown reasons. i guess the HDD is dying slowly :)

i'll look for a new drive on newegg.com and see what might happen next.

    thanks all for the suggestions.
