I've been getting the blue screen of death on my ASUS F3SV-A1 for the last while it says the problem has to do with nvlddmkm.sys, which i assume is a video driver. At this point my computer wont even boot up the whole way, the only way i can do anything on here is through Safe Mode w/ Networking.

I tried downloading the newest drivers for my video card but that didn't fix it. What should i do next? I am willing to do anything to get this fixed.

are you using driver sweeper in safe mode to clean out the old display drivers before installing the new ones?

try open your lappy and press the GPU into its socket. it might be that the GPU is slightly loose (i had BSODs coz of that, on another computer)

    hope it helps

Sounds like a bad video card. Can you get it to show up on an external monitor?

Yah i can get it to show on an external monitor, but even on the external monitor the picture is filled with pink and green grainy looking lines.

'm thinking im gonna try and reformat windows completely, if that doesnt fix it maybe i should just get a new laptop. Is that a good plan?

    Bake the video card.

Yep, that's a bad GPU. I had mine replaced for similar issues. But what driver you use may also make a difference, so reformating, reinstalling and trying different drivers *might* help. Even after I had my GPU replaced, it did the pink garble thing once, I believe. But I reinstalled a good driver and haven't had issues since. What weinter is suggesting (seriously) is explained here.

    Cheers...

i'm trying to reformat my laptop but i can't find my Windows Vista CD. Thinking back i dont even remember whether or not i got a windows vista CD with my ASUS F3SV-A1 when i bought it.

I have found a Windows XP CD. Would that work/should i use it?

A quick question is whether your laptop is still under warranty? Also, you may be able to call Asus and have them send you a disc if they didn't give you one originally. But if not, an XP CD would probably do fine.

That's a shame, but just keep in mind that the dubious-looking method of baking your GPU is only a temporary fix until the the next failure. The problem is due to poor-quality substrate that is not up to a large number of thermal cycles, so your GPU will inevitably fail again even if you fix it.

My advice to you would be to bake the GPU and sell the laptop to save yourself future troubles with it.
