Hey, I'm a new XP user and was wondering what you guys use for AOL Instant Messenger/MSN/Yahoo, etc.? I use Adium on Mac...is there anything good like that which enables you to run multiple accounts at once?

I'll agree with dragonesse here. Gaim rocks my world and I suggest it to everyone I know. I tried Trillian a while back and the interface was too frilly for me. This might have changed since then, but I'm happy with Gaim.

Oh yeah, Gaim will do AIM/ICQ, Gadu-Gadu, GroupWise, IRC, Jabber, MSN, Napster, SILC, and Yahoo. Since it's open source, should one of the companies decide to block it, there's usually a workaround posted the same or next day.

Oh yeah, and did I mention that Google gives you instructions on how to set up Google Talk on Gaim using a Jabber profile? I think I just did. ;)

I use Miranda-IM. It's open source, with support for all the popular IM programs thru the use of plugins. And it uses practically no resources.
Not much recent update action on it though, but everything still works fine, and the plugin community is still actively updating.

I tried Miranda, and really wanted to like it. I'm just not computer literate enough to get it working correctly. Hopefully they can make it a little more user friendly soon.

Gaim is a good alternative. I've been using trillian since .67, so I'm used to that, though.

    AIM Sucks
    Deadaim isn't good
Gaim is the worst possible i believe....

So my vote is Trillian, since it has ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, and so on

I am a huge fan of the AIM official client, however i dont like all that spyware they put on there. So i use this http://aftermath.dyndns.org:8888/~aimadhack/
called aim ad hack. Modifies the AIM install to not install AOL Explorer, etc.. other than that i would go with gaim, thats what i use in linux. I dont know if they have it for windows, but kopete is also cool.

If you want a slick, small, robust and low CPU/Memory program, go for Miranda IM. Yes, sure, it's not noob friendly, but when you set it up, you got no worries.
It supports every possible protocol, even IRC.

    Regards, VidKo
