I have a Gnutella program that uses port 6346 and I need to figure out a different port to connect with that will run just the same. Any suggestions?

usually...if you got to file and then settings/options in the porgram and then click on connections/network, you can change the port there. And don't forget to open up the required port in your router management console page.

As long as you stay away from port 1024 and down. Those are reserved for "standard" protocols. (but 1025-5999 should be fine. Not sure whre the 600 limit Tim mentioned comes from. Is it some Gnutella thing?)

the selection of ports you can use is usually stated in the connections setup box in the program.

I'm guessing the reason he's asking about using a different port is his network admin had blocked port 6346 to conserve bandwidth/avoid lawsuits. University student perhaps?
