    Hi,

    I've been having this problem recently that if I have a my gmail account open in a tab the CPUs jumps 30-40% and stays there. But when I close the gmail account tab it drops back to 3-5%. Its very annoying as I use gmail a lot when browsing and having the CPUs so taxed by it causes other pages to slow/unresponsive slightly. (BTW When I go back to the "basic" gmail option the problem goes away, but I dont see this as a real option as the "basic" mode is cr^p!)

    Any tips to get rid of this annoying problem appreciated!

    That's pretty odd. I've never encountered that problem before. Have you tried clearing the cache? Also, what security suite are you running? If you disable it, does the problem continue? What version of FF are you using?

    Do you have chat enabled in gmail?

    I'm not having that problem when I open gmail in a Firefox tab so the only thing I can think of right now that could be causing yours to do that is perhaps one of your FF add-ons. Try disabling them and see if you still have the high CPU usage on gmail.

    Hey all, -sry for the huge delay getting back.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I've just disabled and re-enabled all the addons, this seems to have helped. Its at looking at Ff's CPU use with gmail open its at 18%, then when closing it goes back to 4%. Not perfect by any means but good enough to work for the moment. Will keep trying to tweak it out, and will post up any good results.

    Specifically to the suggestions;
    Cache clear; done
    Anti-V; Avira and Comodo (haven't tried disabling yet)
    FF; latest general release with all patches (3.5.3)
    Chat; enabled

    Works perfect with IE and very little CPU usage

    Seems to have partially helped, probably needs more refinement to find specific problem.
