I have a big music folder filled with folders of each album. I want the folder so it is just the files, no subfolders. Is there any way to do this?

Drag and Drop! And I don't mean each file (duh)! In each sub folder left click on 1st file go to last file press "shift" button down and left click grabs all files and drag!

Yea, Your just going to have to Open up 2 windows of your music folder side by side. On either side just open a Folder and drag N Drop, Then delete the folder you dragged it from(which should be empty now).

I hope that makes sense for you.

if you don't want to have to go into each folder and systematically empty them try the following:

Do a search within your main music folder for *.* this, once the search has run, will then give you a list of all the files (and folders).

Then click on the folders button in the toolbar, you will now have your windows explorer folder tree available plus the list of all the files and folders.

Then click on the "type" column header, this will sort everything by type so all the actual folders will be bunched together.

Select everything else by clicking on the first file name and shift clicking on the last one making sure you don't include the folders.

Drag the list of files into the left hand side of the window to the folder of your choice. (make sure you drop them in the right place!)

This will then move all the files out of the various folders into the location of your choosing. Note it will move the files if the destination folder is on the same hard drive but it will copy them if the destination folder is on a different hard drive.

I hope the above makes sense, it's always tricky putting into words something you do automatically!

One thing I like is right clicking when I drag not left. Why? Because right click promps you move/copy/cancel. Kind of a fail safe, sometimes if finger slips you get screwed.

Do you have enough disk space to temporarily hold a copy of all of the music files? If so here is a solution that will allow you to do this by dropping out to a command prompt and tying a single command. http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy16.htm

Note: XXCOPY is XCOPY on steroids. And you will have to download it from the site above. I had to do this very thing a long time ago. I thought I had used just plain old XCOPY to do it then realized I had actually used XXCOPY instead.

Always a good idea, to do that, but remember that you also have the magic power of Edit->Undo. Or Ctrl+Z. Whichever you prefer.
