When I turn on my computer, the first thing that comes up is a message from hp that my battery should be replaced: "HP Battery Alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low.
For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.
    Primary (internal) Battery (601)
    ENTER - Continue Startup"

Is there anyway to get rid of this without buying a new battery?

    Thanks for the answers!

Uninstall whatever HP component is responsible for it if possible... some sort of battery monitor program or whatever, check your running processes and see if one sticks out ... or simply replace your battery?

Ya that's got to be a bios error message...
I'm wondering if that's referring to the internal clock battery...

I think it's referring to the CMOS battery..but there's an easy way to check...take out the primary battery then power up with only the AC adapter and see if the BIOS message appears.

I just started without the battery in and there is no message.

What I want to do is to be able to leave my battery in and start-up without the message. Although it doesn't hold a charge long, I like to be able to un-plug and move from one spot to another.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check the BIOS.

I put the battery back in and I'm getting the error message again, so at least I know what is the definite cause.

I checked in the BIOS, but I don't see any option for disabling battery notifications/warnings. Is there another place I should look?

CPU1 Since the warning comes up B4 windows loads, I do not believe there is any easy way to disable the warning. You could check the HP web site to see if there is a BIOS update that specifically addresses this issue.

    What model do you have?

I did some browsing in the FAQ you linked to and found some interesting things.

    Lastly:

It looks like the only thing business-class allows you to do is to hide the URL that appears in the message, not the message itself.

Seems like I'm just going to have to accept this message.
