Hi, all. I am trying to find out how to use my GPU to accelerate the playback of MKV files that contain 720p and 1080p content.

I currently use the CCCP codecs running on Windows Media Player, but have heard that is entirely CPU-based. Does anybody know of a player that will use GPU acceleration for this type of content?

Use Haali media splitter with WMP. You can try the new VLC player and MPC-HC, they support GPU acceleration for H.264 videos.

Media Player Classic-HC can handle MKV DXVA Acceleration. VLC is still new for the game and quite buggy.

This. Plus the new VLC DXVA feature works only on Nvidia cards at the moment, so you're in luck there.

No I think they enabled ATI support with new 1.1.2 release, but still can't beat MPC-HC.

10.7 drivers for ATI enabled hardware acceleration with VLC Player.

VLC seems to be quite buggy with the hardware acceleration. When I seek a video, it becomes pixelated and resumes back to normal after sometime, with the GPU acceleration enabled in VLC. This is not the case with acceleration turned OFF.

WMP and MPC-HC play and seek the same video without any issue.
