Is there any way to prevent applications from trying to start themselves up at Startup?

I know about System Config and how to disable apps that have inserted themselves into my boot up. What I want to do is prevent any new app from trying to add itself to that list, period. I see that some apps try to do that each time they are run and I'm always having to go back in and disable them.

So - how do you disable permissions to the 'Startup' folder and whereever else Vista allows programs to execute on boot?

I don't know if this helps any, but with some programs you can select within the program's options not to load with Windows.

Many software firewalls will detect an application install trying to add itself to the startup registry keys. They will freeze the install and let you choose if you want to continue or deny the startup entry. However, some applications will cease to install in these cases.

One firewall that does this for sure is Zone Alarm. I'm not sure of others.

CCleaner shows them and has the means to remove them, too.
