Can anyone recommend a free vpn? I think there are becoming more out there that aren't complete scams with tons of nagware and other stuff. I'm not wanting it all the time or for that high of data speed, just 720/1080p streaming is good. It would be nice to get past the yt geoblocking sometimes. I don't think I'd use a free one full time unless you guys have some really good real usage examples.

Tunnelbear maybe? Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You will pay with your privacy/security in some way.

Free and VPN don't go together.

They are usually capped in data limit or speed

Hotspot Shield is what I used to use 15 years ago when it comes to free and I think it's still the best of the free garbage.

I use hide.me , its very cheap, the fastest I've used, and has a 0 logging policy, they are not based in the US. 1 subscription allows you to connect 10 devices simultaneously. I have it setup in my ASUS router so my IP phone can work to.

It is the fastest as it has the option to switch the Protocol from Automatic which usually uses OpenVPN to Wireshark which is the newest and fastest and most secure protocol. If you do setup the free trial, make sure you go into settings and change the protocol manually to Wireshark.

So Nord is out because it's more expensive and doesn't support Wireshark?

Yes. That, and it doesn't work for me in Dubai. But even for people abroad where Nord VPN does work. Why settle for an inferior VPN when there's one that's better in terms of speed and technology, multi device support (1 subscription for 10 diff. devices), 0 logging, not US based, superior customer service.

Isn't Nord 0-logging too? It's based in Panama BTW.

Nord does not log, and they are based outside the US. They are not free, but cost is very reasonable. Further, they have a very large number of servers, and will provide help for setting up to protect your privacy - including detecting and preventing DNS leaks. As noted, you get what you pay for.

I've tried all the big VPN providers, and Surfshark is the one I keep going back to. They're based in the British Virgin Islands and have a similar no-log policy as the other services. It's the fastest VPN I've tried, it supports all the major protocols including WireGuard, their customer service is excellent, and there's no limit on the number of devices you can connect at once. Factoring in the substantial discounts that are available through YouTube influencer codes and other outlets, as well as Rakuten cash back, my final cost for a two-year plan was a little more than $30.

VPN are based on where you live and not all will be available in all locations or countries. Also make sure they are following those countries Laws as well as you could avoid any legal pitfalls. But as anything there is no free lunch as mention when using VPN. You could try those free proxy and configure your browser or system to route through those as well. But you will have to do some homework if you choose such routes as those on here shouldn't be in the business of choosing a VPN or Proxy server for you to use.

Hmm well looks like there's not really anything then, I've used ipvanish before for short term use and didn't have any problems. It's really just for getting around geoblocking for some yt videos nothing more.

Yeah I'll try it again I guess, seems way too slow for streaming though from what I remember last time I used it. I thought I read somewhere that some browser had a light free version of a vpn, or some other simple tricks, probably shouldn't have mentioned a vpn, just asked about geoblocking tricks.

And as anything VPN do keep history so if you thought it was anonymous it's not they know where you at and what you go to as well. If your circumventing for Human Right causes that's different then going to black sites or Porn site because you'll get caught then don't expect any assistance from users on here.

Dude you are an absolute black hole, did you read any of my posts for the intended use? Uhh yeah I've used ipvanish VPN I'm not a newby here or to the realities of computer privacy. I've noticed your self righteous blowing in other posts and it stinks from here. Crawl away.

As an update I got a free plugin add on for firefox called hide my ip free and it works well. Just to clear the air I was wanting to watch a travel video that was on youtube and it came up and said geoblocked no idea why. I was planning a trip and wanted to get some ideas as to itinerary that's all.

I have this nag screen from IOBit: "Subscribe to IObit and enjoy free VPN Service". They claim no logs, no ads, 100% free.
    Never tried it though
