I was messing with the windows font sizes when I went back to 100 percent default not everything is back to normal. Some stuff is smaller than before and other stuff is the normal size. Screenshots are provided. My Desktop icons are okay, but firefox is not and it's not just firefox it's windows stuff too. I provided another screen shot. I also have xp dpi 96 so why is everything still wrong font size :(

I wanted to add those images should look clear when you click into them, what you would be seeing is what I'm seeing text are ridiculously small.

Okay, I figured it out it's definately a bug in windows. If you put a really high custom dpi scale then change it back to the default 100 percent scale some fonts will change back to normal, others will shrink.

To change back to default you have to select one of the available options not the 100% text size, but either the 125 or 150 percent size. Apply and logout an relogin.

Finally do not select the 100 percent text size it'll just repeat the thing with wrong font sizes. Go to custom dpi text size and from there make sure Xp style scaling is selected and scroll the ruler using the mouse all the way to the left so we get back to 100 percent text size. I don't think you should use the drop down list to go back to 100 as this is already buggy.

Hope that helps someone else in my situation.

Unless you can tell us EXACTLY, step by step, how you got into your present configuration it's a bit of a stretch to blame a Windows 'bug' for not being able to get back to an earlier config.

Most applications have their own font settings that are only loosely coupled with Windows desktop settings.

Newsposter is right. If you cant tell us exactly what you did how can we help...?

On top of that I know something that WILL work.

Simply use system restore and restore your computer to a point before you started 'messing around' with your computer...

I had to do this for a friend about a year ago. Next time it's best to leave things alone.. if it isn't broken don't fix it ;)

Ok, I'll try and reproduce the bug. I'll post back if successful.

I have successfully reproduced the bug, currently I'm using windows 7 professional 64bit with latest service pack 1.

    What I did:
    1) Right-clicked on desktop select personalize.

    2) Select Display (found on the left side).

    3) Then select "Set custom text size (DPI).

    4) Using my mouse I dragged the ruler or size gauge to over 150 plus %.

    5) Applied changes logged out and logged back in.

    6) Repeat steps 1) and 2) then select Smaller - 100% (default) as one of the options provided.

    7) Apply changes, logoout/login.

    8) Go to the Desktop and right click, fonts are terribly small. Desktop icons are perfect as before.

    9) Also try opening firefox web-browser fonts on bookmarks section and web address area are also eye piercing small.

The fix I provided does not work all the time. A sure way to fix this is change to one of the themes provided in windows 7 everything will go back to normal like before.

As a Linux and Windows user I'm not going to blame windows, all OS have bugs, even OSX.

the 'smaller' font you yourself picked, are you sure that the fontname/style has that particular size available to it?

I'm not sure what your asking, but I did not alter the windows fonts other than changing the dpi scaling (increasing) and later decreasing to default 100% scale. Restoring the settings to default caused some text to shrink. Firefox was affected (which some may blame on me), but windows fonts were also affected (so it wasn't me that caused the problem). When I right-clicked on the desktop, the menu options that are shown are incredibly small. Also when opening the windows browser (My computer, My documents, etc.) The text on the top near the address bar is shrunken.

As I mentioned earlier the fix provided works and restores all text to their original sizes, so yes they do have those particular sizes available.

I assume this bug has something related to the theme settings, since changing to one of the Seven themes fixes it. I'm calling this a bug now, try it for yourselves.

I had this happen to me before.
Another person on this forum had it happen too.

opening up taskmanger and restarting explorer.exe fixes it.
    yea, its a bug.
