For some reason every time I update my Flash player I get a runaway CPU. It start off normally enough, then all of a sudden peaks to 100%! This time around it's only the Core 3 that shoots to 100%. Cores 1,2 & 4 all look normal. Can someone explain it?

Video playback is normal too, with no audio distortion I can detect.

What version of Flash do you have installed? Have you tried uninstalling it completely, then downloading the latest version from Adobe?

does flash update properly or is there a 'real' problem (other than spending way too much time staring at a cpu monitoring program).

Actually, the installer was suppose to do that--at least that's what it said. Anyway, this is the latest version.
    That was/is my question?

Actually, it's never a good idea to upgrade Flash on top of itself. Uninstall it yourself, reboot, then install directly from the Adobe website. This is especially important if you were running a beta version of Flash.

Well like I said, it came through as an automatic update and simply clicking the yes box was so tempting. Nevertheless, I'll keep you suggestion in mind come the next go-round.
