My brother's ASUS G51 encountered this error recently:

    File: \Boot\Bcd
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data

I've tried different methods including the ones on the MS site as well as using the recovery disc to attempt a repair. Since I do not have a Vista install disc there were some methods I could not try. Are there any other methods out there, I don't want to do a clean install right away as there are a few files that he doesn't want to lose. If there is a way to recover his files that would be fine too, thanks!

Does your computer have a recovery partition or restore DVDs, might have a repair option on those. For file recovery - recommend Puppy Linux. Small distro you can download, burn to an ISO and loads in RAM. Intuitive and simple interface. Mount your hard drive files and another disk (USB drive or portable hard drive) copy & paste and you have backed up your files at least.

Thanks for all your help, it seems like he messed up his files before hand since I was unable to find any using Linux.
