    Hi,
This actually applies to my desktop and not my laptop. I'm just thankful I have a laptop that works!
My problem is that for the last few weeks, my Firefox browser has been running slow and/or locking up. It only happens on my desktop, not my laptop, so it's not my internet connection. I've run Malwarebytes and AVG scans because I think I have a virus. This is the strange "clue"... When I go to Yahoo and a few other brand name sites, in addition to the normal messages in the browser bar while the page is loading, the browser bar shows "Looking up cars4all.biz..." I've checked and the domain doesn't exist. When I google it I can't find anything.
Any ideas? This is driving me CRAZY!

Looks like you're going to have to uninstall FF and install it again. Something has hijacked your homepage.

Use a good anti virus program to see if it's anywhere else on your computer.

You could also try a system restore to a point before this started.

I'd just do a clean install of FF since it's pretty quick to do.

Try disabling/removing AVG first. It has been the source of many un-explained browser behaviors. Try Avast instead.

    Thanks for the advice.
I am thinking of uninstalling FF and then reinstalling. I don't want to loose my bookmarks or cookies. Are they in a seperate file that will survive and automatically load, or do I need to do something.
I thought of changing to Avast. I may do that too.
Appreciate any thoughts on my first question.
And just to clarify, I still load yahoo, it's just I get that message. Same thing happens if I go to msn. I figure it means something...
And I have turned off all my extensions, and have run a full AVG scan.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it but an easy way would be to open IE and import the bookmarks. Then when you install FF you'll be able to import them back. This won't do anything for the cookies though.

For me, I've used AVG with FF for years and never had a problem.

    Problem solved!
Thanks to Padmé and several bloggers I read.
I uninstalled AVG (which I've used and liked for years) and then installed Avast. Avast found a dozen viruses that AVG had missed, including the culprit in this case. Anyway, I used to recommend AVG but now I've got to say AVAST seems better, at least in this case! Go AVAST!!!!

    Based on Baserk Famous Topic,
    Anti Virus (AV-Comparatives)
Avast! Home Edition 4.8......antirootkit and antispyware protection included, 98,2%
Avira AntiVir Personal 9...... antirootkit and antispyware protection included, 99,7%
    AVG 8.5 Free....................antispyware protection included, 93%

AVG always screw-up my system. AVG is my last choice of any other AVs.
To ensure optimal protection against malwares/spywares, use SpywareBlaster.
It is a passive protection and do not consume any resources.
    Download it here, http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Install it and enable all protection.
Don't forget to update it once a week.
    Advantages of this software,
It creates a build-in protection for your internet browsers. You don't need to run SpywareBlaster everytime except update.

Download Kaspersky and use that - the trial to my knowledge does everything the paid for version does and lasts 30 days - that would be enough to find any malicious software.
