I thought I was the only one who complained about it's obscenely slow startup time. I'm using a SSD and it STILL hangs when I open it.

This has to do with hardware acceleration, it can be turned off in the options.

It is loading very fast on my XP Pro. The text looks good also. Thanks for the info on the freez, I will look in options and see if it helps.

Turns out disabling gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled is the best bet as it keeps everything else enabled. I haven't tried it as the last time I uninstalled the beta it screwed up my 3.6 installation and I had to adjust everything back to the way I like it. I hope they get this kink worked out....kind of surprised it's still there considering how big it is.

Man this crap really is beta. I usually find beta software to be damn near perfect but this is....bad. I can't use it. Uninstalled it. That fix didn't work, had to disable hardware acceleration, and even then I don't think it rendered the text perfectly. And still messed up my 3.6 installation, had to re-install and fix everything up. I don't know why they almost combine the installs together.

I don't know. I love my FF to be honest, but 4.0 looks messed up. I hope they come through...considering they're on beta 9...kind of worried. If it was beta 1 or 2...no wonder it's been delayed.

Looks fine to me - and is as quick or quicker than 3. something.
    Still too slow though...

Beta 9 crashing ... already on beta 10 .. crashing same.
    ..
keeping 60 tabs open all the time doesn't help but it's a fast testing way :)
3.6 works fine and no problem with it.
Got 8gb ram don't care how much ff uses if it works fine.

-> how do you manage 60 tabs?
    Submit a bug report?

On that note - all version of FF4 have been stable for me - but then I don't go to such extremes.

Been using the 4.09 all day yesturday and I love it, can't say enough good stuff about it. FireFox just gets better and better! I installed Opera 11 to compare and well, I dislike Opera even more now that I've been using 4.09 and of course cya to Chrome whichever has no features to speak of.

If I was a FF developer and saw that bug report, my response would be, where is your computer cause I have a powerful need to take a BO on it. :p

I've been running the Firefox 4 Beta for a while now, since about Beta 4.

It's improved, but it still feels like pre-alpha software in terms of resource usage. It's like it has a memory leak or something, I'm quite disappointed with it.

Flash support seems to have been fixed since Beta 5. That was horrible. At that point I was using the IE9 beta more than Firefox.

Overall, it just feels sluggish and unresponsive. Page rendering at the best of times doesn't stack up well against Firefox 3.6.13.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I tried it yesterday and compared to Chrome and Opera that I know use it was not good. There are still things I like about Firefox (Downthemall for example), but that is not enough to get me to use it anymore (though I still have it installed in Ubuntu).

    4.0b10pre 2011-01-22

It's the first version what can take my extreme usage without crash.
Stable for the 2. day with 60+ tabs open, 30 extension active.
    1Gb+ ram used by ff.

Any prev version only lasted 5min.

Staying with this til the final 4.0 out unless some major changes to try out .. but keeping backup.

I have no idea. I just use 32Bit Windows - zero need/gain from 64Bit for me (just a hassle setting it up)

Not much other then it works fine just as 32bit ...
But now since got x64 java and x64 flash can go on and use it.
That was the only 2 problem b4.

x64 ff is still called minefield maybe that is why hard to find it at some places.

Got 8Gb ram in my pc-s so x64 os to use it and install everything that is out in x64 instead x32.
