    Pre in Firefox world equals pre-beta (at least now). The current one seems to be pre-beta 6.

    after installing firefox 3.0pre, it says its called "minefield"
    is this permanant?

    No, Minefield is the name of the development version. They will rename it to Firefox 3 when it is completely finished.

    ok, good. I wouldn't want to look at something with an odd icon like that, I would switch back to ie if that were not the case

    They just switch it to this icon and name as to prevent confusion. General users will think "Oh look, Firefox 3. Let me download it..." and they would end up complaining and switching to IE as the browser is unstable/unfinished.

    I'm using firefox 2.0.0.13 or whatever, because minefield seems to lag.
    if i middle click, and scroll down, it like lags
    firefox 2 doesnt
