This was rather odd. I was surfing the internet, and I wasn't particularly running much, just itunes and firefox. I was visiting a site, and bam the computer shuts down. No reason. The screen goes black and I hear the harddrive stop moving. So I check the cables, plugged in safely, I check my alarm clock, no power out. So I turn it back on. I start up firefox. It's odd, because no "restart session" comes up. Hmm. My favorites have completely disappeared. My preferences are gone. My addons are reactivated to default settings. More frustrating is that, despite adjusting back to my preferences, firefox returns to default settings again with the addons back at default everytime i close it down, or open another browser window. Now i've been a big fan of Firefox until recently. I have noticed that Firefox 2 seems a bit glitchy and sometime unresponsive. It's not enough to deter me from uninstalling and defaulting to explorer, but it seems to getting worse, it seems to crash more often than the previous version, and seems more bloated in general. However, this is the first time I've been rather pissed off because a lot of my favorites pertained to school related materials and financial activities of mine.

Anyways any help or advice? I've been growing agitated with this version.

I'm suspecting a complete uninstall and reinstalltion is in order.

Have you tried Opera? I was fine with Firefox until version 2 which seemed to be annoingly buggy. I now use Opera which is quick and easy to get used to, faster and more nimble than firefox I have found so far.

Uninstall it altogether and see if the problem persists. If not, it might be your computer. Just throwing this up in the air > have you cleaned the internals for dust and such?

Yea I would try reinstalling firefox and before you do that, go into your C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Application Data\Mozilla and in there you should be able to see firefox and your backed up bookmarks.

eh i found the solution. apparently there is a bug that when the firefox is abruptly shut down that it may result in a losing everything and reset back to default, everytime you open it up. so i checked the files and deleted a file that recorded firefox events. yay.

This is what happens when comsumers demand upgrades. FF was just fine.

I don't use FF2 that much to have a good judgement.

It is still unacceptably unstable. I, like others, love Firefox, but so far FF2 has been a disaster. I will probably switch over to Camino soon if they can't get this fixed.

I have never had any major problems with FF2. Is has locked up on my a couple of times but I was trying to do too many things at one time (around 20 tabs open, playing itunes, outlook open). I still like it.
