I started up my computer this morning and it went through a check disk on my second hard drive before it would load up. I watched as it did it and noticed that the files it was mentioning were music files of mine.

When it was all done I went to the location of these files that were listed and they were all gone..... So is my computer going to be randomly deleting files whenever it goes through this checkdisk? Scares me if that would have happened on my primary drive and happened to delete system files.

if scandisk is 'doing things' is probably has a very very good reason.

such as your hard drive may be very very close to being broken. permanently. as in total data loss.

do whatever you can to grab backups and replace the unit.

if your drive is near-death, DO NOT be tempted to try and reformat it and place the thing back into service. drives don't come back from the dead. they just eat data.
