I was attempting to connect my win 7 libraries to my xbox 360 and since the zune software didn't work I resorted to windows media player and messed with media center (using the 360 as an extender). now somewhere in there my account (which is listed as the administrator) permission to view my music and photos was removed.
clicking a folder gives me a message saying i don't have permission after clicking continue it will allow to view the folder but the files are still individually locked. The photos have a lock symbol on the thumbnail and I can view them but I used photozig to manage albums and it could not access these photos. The music doesn't have the lock but i cannot open the files and no software can access it.

as for the solution I tried everything that I can think of on a folder level and it works but just for the folder, leaving the files locked. I've regained access to some of my music by manually readding my account to the permissions list on each file individually. But this still leaves several thousand files and this would take a long time to do and more patience than i have left for the year.

So is their anything I can do to reset all of the permissions on a directory level rather than the file level? For example if I use Ubuntu to copy the files to another HDD will these copies retain the permissions from windows or would this effectively reset everything?
