I was wondering what the options for ripping cds to FLAC quality on windows

Is there some sort of guide how to - or does an easy program that automatically rips the cd's with all the info on tracknumbers etc. and such?

The reason i want to rip to FLAC is because my SGS' music app plays FLAC but not the apple loss-less quality..

So what kind of programs to rip is needed to rip into FLAC? I intend on playing them in Winamp on my computer - and PowerAMP on my SGS.

The top 2 programs are by far CDex and EAC

I prefer EAC (Exact Audio Copy) both have a great verification and error correction/detection ability.

Can automatically look up all the ID3 information off the FreeDB server (year, artist, track #, genre, etc) and even look for cover art for you .

I actually do my tagging with MP3Tag though since its the best tagging program but I let EAC get the data before it rips so it will rip the files with a file name of the track instead of a generic track name.

Just like my video encoding I do things pretty indepth. I actually use a scanner and scan the books/disk/case as well and have my own custom photoshop templates that I edit those scans to a set size/format.

For playback I use Foobar since it has tabbed browsing so I can sort my huge collection by genre/artist/album and find anything quick and easy or just listen to a broad genre or artist if I am not looking for something specific.

I actually rip to 256kb AAC instead of FLAC these days as well, same quality audibly but 1/2 the size on disk, its not the size so much as the compatibility that I like. it will play on devices like my phone without issue and on the phone size does matter more.

I have tried EAC. And i got a fine quality and everything - but there were no titles/album info etc. Do i have to toggle something about that ID3?

    +1 for EAC and foobar

Main reason for FreeDB? It also includes Japanese CDs :D

The latest issue of maximumPC magazine (either april or may 2011) has their updated article on ripping. I use their guide with eac and flac, works great.

The WinAmp one has the advantage of using GraceNote as the database. I've found FreeDB to sometimes have errors, duplicates, missing info and other inconsistencies.

Figured out EAC yesterday. And freedb seems to have most of the info i need, allthoug there was a few missing.

Question: If you're adding the song info / album info yourself how would you add the album cover aswell?
