Using FF4 with hardware acceleration enabled on my ATI 5450 I found that the font was bonkers. After a bit of research it turned out that if you go into about:config and change gfx.direct2d.disabled to true and the font issues are fixed.

If others are suffering from the font issue that should fix it.

My question is does setting that toggle to true disable the other benefits of hardware acceleration? Thanks.

All you did is go in the options and uncheck "Hardware acceleration" but the more complicated version.

The real solution is to install the Firefox ClearType add-on which allows you to adjust the text font. I don't get why Firefox 4 dev has this problem by default.. it's like all the developers part of Mozilla org. is using 20$ el-cheapo LCD screen or half blind.
