I am trying to get a Vostro 1400 to XP.

a couple of great guides on the forum - unfortunately I am having an error not addressed in the other forums. Namely:

During "applying changes" stage I recieve:

access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\NliteTempReg\controlset001\services\iastor\parameters\pnpinterface' is denied

It says my drivers may still be okay - so I click to continue & 1/2 way through the "Direct Burn" phase the write fails and provides the following error info:

    Error opening C:\\\\XPCD\i386\setupreg.hiv

I have tried multiple CD-R media and even used two different machines and have recieved the same errors every time.

anyone ever seen these before? Is my XP disc bad?

    Thanks.

I'm puzzled that nLite appears to be accessing the registry.

There is a report of a similar problem here also here ( translated).

I would try using an older version of nLite.

I think it's the registry you're building on your CD it's trying to access. No clue why it fails. Try enabling or disabling some options.

I've found that when you customize a lot of options, you easily end up with non-working CD's.

So go back to something more standard, test it, change a few options, test it and so on. Takes a while, but at least you get a CD that works. ;)

I have tried using ver 1.3.5 and had the same error.

also, and this is really strange, I got the same errors when using two very different machines to build the disc.
    1) the old desktop running win2K pro
    2) the new laptop running Vista Home Basic.

 which I did not expect.

I had the same problem, but I finally success in burning the bootable CD with the drivers integrated. I just went back to nLite and pick the folder that already has the XP installation files copied as the source and then choose only the burn bootable CD option.

As I said, it seems to be the registry on the disc you're trying to build, that fails. Not your own Windows installation's registry. So for that reason, it doesn't matter which computer you run it on.

The "solution" is simply to fiddle with nlite's options, remove some of the drivers you tried to add, remove some of the custom options you set.
