    Hello All,

i was following this guide the other day: http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
    Attempting to change my "services"

After a re-boot I was unable to connect to the internet and so I changed all the settings back to normal but some of them (namely the ones to diagnose problems and the internet ones) won't start because of "Error 5: access denied"

Does anyone have any idea what this means or how to get around it?

    Thank you!

BTW, I'm on Vista 64-bit if that makes any difference =/

I would suggest booting to Safe Mode and trying to change them there. Additionally, disable UAC if you have it on.

Go back to the default values for the OS, and leave it alone unless you are absolutely sure what the feature does and does not do. I am basically using a slightly-modified version of the "safe" list, do not go to a more strict list.

I went back to the default but some of them aren't starting when they're set to "automatic" so I can't get onto the internet on that computer...

    I'll try safemode

I thought BlackViper had a registry hack to set everything back to default values...?

Oh, I would back up your personal data just in case further tweaking breaks the OS.

I don't really keep much on that computer...
But I didn't bring my OS CD here because I'm on vacation for 2 months =P

Well back up your data anyway...did you use any kind of backup utility before tweaking. You should always do that!

You might need to get a disc just to repair the installation (there is a repair option).

    Would a 32-bit disk repair 64-bit? =P

    I have the 32-bit one...not the 64-bit one lol

    I know, stupid question
