I did some final tweaking on my router to make it secure and then noticed when booting up my laptop I would briefly see a box onscreen and it would vanish before I could make anything out. Everything was functional, but something unexplainable like this I can't stand so I started unchecking things in msconfig. Found that unchecking EOUWIZ.EXE made the startup window flash not appear. A google search found it means "Intel Ease Of Use Wizard Application". Internet still works, so I guess it's an optional thing.

I want WIFI to be ubiquitous without excessive tray icons or bubblet messages coming from them. At first I was letting intel pro wireless handle the connection, especially since it can handle a non broadcast ap SSID, but I'm also trying out the dark side, letting MSFT zero config handle it now since that will be the future and I might as well get used to it.

Anyway, was wondering if anyone else had seen this bootup window flash too brief to read. Last things I did on the router was enable mac address filtering and stop broadcasting the SSID. I had to reverse that and broadcast the SSID so that MSFT zero config utility could see the access point.

If EOUWIZ didn't stop the startup window flash, the next thing I was going to disable was IFRMEWRK.EXE (Intel PROSet/Wireless Applet) in msconfig. I didn't get to that point, but I wonder if I had disabled IFRMEWRK would the WIFI work at all or is that just the intel version of the MSFT zero config utility. If that is so, then I could probably uncheck it since it's not needed. As long as it's just an application and not a driver, then it's not needed if one lets microsoft control the wifi.

Anyone smarter than me know the real story on EOUWIZ and IFRMEWRK or am I the smartest person here (god I hope not!!). [ :)]
