i just checked my sidebar (dual core gadget). and it says 1200MHz. it used to say 2000MHz (2GHz). and all my game "system analyzers" say 1200MHz to. what's up?

because the cpu is running at a lower clock frequency because it does not need to run at full power. If you set it at max power it will tell you 2. Or the gadget is buggy but i think its the first one.

    CPU 101 C2D edition
the CPU will clock itself higher and lower depending on stress load = intel speedstep
this is implemented on most mobile CPUS
unlike old desktop CPUS that run at max clock

    Speedstep?

Did you look under Task Manager and see if there were two graphs? Also try using CPU-Z to check if 'dual-cores' are enabled.

Edit: Bah, the guy above beat me too it. :p

Download Notebook Hardware Control and make sure it's on Maximum Performance, so it runs with 100% cpu power all of the time, instead of being dynamic and using full speed when needed, youll notice good system performance, but it drains battery so use the program to switch to battery mode to conserve battery
