I just downloaded IE7 and today I hit a site that required Java. Up came a message from MS saying no java and get more info from pressing more info button.

    Here is the page.
It basically says that due to legal settlement, MS will no longer include Java in IE. However, there is a transition period in which Sun Systems extends Java Licensing to MS for 1 year.

Basically, I am in the midst of grading exams (I am a law professor), I have no time to learn anything about this (I know all about the case however :D having met the head of Sun Systems himself when on a team with Ralph Nader.)

Can anyone tell me what to do? I want the most fool-proof and easiest solution;. I can't handle anything screwing up right now. Maybe in a month or so... but right now I need an easy and fast solution.

Step by step directions would be good. I am very good at following those... :D

I had simillar problems and went back to the IE6 version. I still cannot play Java based yahoo games and the hidden list thing is a work of genius, not. Just a poor buggy imitatation of what Firefox is described as doing.

I tried the java site download but it would not give me the 1.5-10 update. Stuck at 1.5-9 even with IE6.

Java is on 1.6. I don't know why you have problems installing Java. Why don't you download the offline installer and try that?

Well, I had the same problem when I tried to download Java onto my second laptop. Does this mean I have a firewall? (I used the same off-line suggestion with success.)

The laptop came with Norton installed but I disabled it.. or so I thought.

I use Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware on the computer now, but I haven't installed my copy of NOD32 onto this 2nd laptop yet.

Should I remove Norton? It was a trial version, now about a year old. I don't intend to use it as I did not like its hogging on my old laptop.

I had some problems with this too in IE7. You're gonna laugh how I fixed it. I opened Firefox to the same site which required Java to run, it gave me a prompt to download the latest. Did that and all is well in IE7. If you have firefox too, you might try it.

BTW- To see if you have Java installed, go to the control panel and look for it. If it's there, you could update it from the Java console (after clicking on it).
Also, you may have to enable Java in IE7...tool-internet options-adavanced-Java (<-this will only be there if you have it installed)
