    OK,
I wonder if anybody knows an add blocker like the one implemented in Kaspersky.

KIS 2010 does a wonderful job of "add management" - however, as I moved to a SSD KIS has a noticeable performance impact ( :( :( :( :( :( ) - so I moved to Micrsoft Security Essentials, but now I see all the advertisments...
(7 and 2009 wereso good, why did they mess up 2010? :()

I found one solution using "inprivate" and effectively a blacklist - which does help a fair bit :) its not perfect, I think it slows IE8 down and doesn't start automatically...

I hope someone has a good suggestion :)

    Thanks in advance.

but, to be fair, you know google, right?

    adblockpro.com

    it looks free..

then again, without the text-link ad in firefox, you now have to mouse-select it, copy it, open a new tab, paste it, and press enter..

    :)

And with IE I can select it and search for the term in Google/Bing which is the next best thing ;)

I did try Binging it... may have tried Google too... but I worry about installing something that will be not doing the job, lagging or else not do what it should.
    But thanks for the suggestion.

    (And now good night all)

With IE? If I select text in FF3.5 and right-click it, I have an option to "Search Google for XXXXX". Bing... I stay away from that. Buying results, trying to bribe companies to use it exclusively, and results that just aren't as good or as relevant as what Google provides.

IE7Pro -free, offers adblock, flashblock, scripting
Admuncher, better than adblock plus in firefox and it works for all browsers, but it cost like $15.

    I actually rather like Bing...
And in my case it can be better than Google depending on what I search for.

    Hmm, but that costs :(
I get my KIS license for free from my bank - thanks for the suggestion though.

The other question is how often will I need that? not that often (if at all)

    Udate:
    Aparently its free - http://www.ie7pro.com/

    Thanks :)

(Its not quite as good though as KIS :( it filters some things KIS didn't (picture on a a German newspaper...) - but its better than the inprivate list :))

Take a look at peerblock .com. Very powerful blocker and very free. It blocks known malicious IPs, Ad IPs you name it. It has huge block lists with over one billion and almost daily updates to the block lists, takes up 1% or less CPU. It tells you what it blocks and it lists the IP number and port. If you think you're blocking the wrong IP add it to safelist for 15min, 1 hr or forever. You could use this with any browser, I'm still using IE7.

As far as I am aware there isno native application to block adds in IE8.

    And PS:
In the long run you'll make more friends on NBR by speaking "Oxford English" :)
    (Or its American equivalent)

daily, several times. people in blogs and forii have a tendency to post links without tagging them as links.

but that's what firefox is made for: fitting to your needs.

This is why I hate abreviations - I should just write advertisment.

An ie7pro blocks some but not all :(

I think I'll end up bing very disenchanted with the internet... the only problem is, where will I get my news from if not online...??
    (Newspapers have advertisments :()

NBR I can at least use the old style :) (although I like the new one more :()

well, the whole site is based on the technology of the forum. but the main news page could just as well be made with a blog (posts about a topic + comments, typical blog-logic).

and most blogs don't autodetect links. and most info i get are from such blog(style) pages.

so yeah, i hit them quite often. maybe you haven't even noted that you hit them often, as you just didn't care to click them then for further info. i always like to.
