Does After Effects CS5 utilize CUDA? Premier Pro has the new Mercury Engine, but that's exclusive to Premier. However I thought AE utilized CUDA similar to how Photoshop does.
I'm trying to figure out a laptop to buy for video editing and I was wondering if it is worth it to get a high end video card (like a Geforce 260M or better). Do you think it would noticeably help if AE utilizes CUDA? Or don't bother spend the extra money because mobile graphics cards aren't that great anyway?

As far as i know it doesn't, but a better GPU will help you with layers and 3D. Also it might exist or appear some plugin that uses CUDA or even the next version. I worked with After Effects while ago but now i just follow it from distance so take this advice with prudence.

after effects and photoshop use video acceleration via opengl and not cuda
-
Correct.
To be specific, it's OpenCL. OpenCL runs on both Nvidia and ATi graphic cards.
CUDA is only for Nvidia GPU's. -
But isn't OpenCL part of OpenGL?
It's like DirectSound, is part of DirectX. No? -
Great, thanks guys

what velocity said.
uses a different language from opengl
OP also note that adobe products have better support for nvidia products in general as they are in partnership with one another. just a fyi -
Well techincly according to nvidia and Adobe it does use cuda/opengl but requires a workstation class gpu...lucky their are guides on the web to make adobe accept a nvidia 2xxm card and above
NVIDIA Quadro and Adobe® After Effects® CS5 -
Link you provided only says OpenGL, not CUDA.
