When copying files from one directory to another, I want to see the files being copied at the bottom of the list in the destination directory. This is not a problem with Windows XP but for some reason Windows Vista decides to auto refresh and so the new files being copied automatically resorted with other files. Is there anyway to disable auto refresh when working with Windwos Explorer in Windows Vista?

what untill it finishes, and it will have all of the copied files selected so you can do as you please with them.

he did. you don't understand his answer. the option the user asks for might not be there, but his information might make the wish unimportant, providing a potentially other solution.

Just sort by Date Modified. It adds the newest files at the top.

You know, I wonder if we're ALL misunderstanding what hendra is saying. Hendra, when you say you "want to see the files being copied at the bottom of the list..." do you mean that, as in XP, you want to see the NAMES of the files, while they are IN THE PROCESS OF BEING COPIED (as opposed to AFTER they have already been copied)? Yes, I liked that ability in XP too, and I miss it in Vista, because being able to watch and identify the files being copied (or searched, if you were using the Search function) was very instructive. I don't believe there is any way to duplicate that ability in Vista. Does anyone else know if it's possible?

I figured when after you paste files into a folder, they appear at the very bottom of the Main pane. You gotta hit F5 before it re-sorts them according to the Sort settings.

Vista automatically sorts them as they are copied in, without hitting F5. Thus you lose track of which files you just copied in. You could just sort by "Date Modified" and select "Descending" and it shows the most recent files copied. Of course, I can't remember the last time I had to do that.

I think you guys misunderstand my question. Sorting by date modified wouldn't work since the files being copied are from various dates, not just old or newer ones. Eye-balling at the files being highlighted is too much trouble if the directory contains too many files. In XP, it is very simple. All files being copied are automatically listed at the bottom. It won't be resorted unless you hit refresh or until the next time you open the directory. In Vista, it is automatically resorted. Very annoying :-(.

BTW: does Win 7 behave the same way?

Oops, I didn't mean Date modified. That's when the file is downloaded to your system.

When copying files locally, sort by Date Created. Plus I think it auto selects the files you just copied.
