Is there anyway to disable the Virus Scanner built in to the Firefox 3 Download Manager? It seems to serve absolutely no useful purpose except slow my system down when I try to download and use multiple files at once.

I googled it and came up with..

Type about:config in the Firefox location bar and filter for the string browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone. The default value of that parameter is true which means that scans will be done whenever a file is downloaded. Setting it to false will disable the automatic virus scanning in Firefox 3.

or install the configuration mania addon then go under security then antivirus and untick it plus you can do more with configuration mania.
