i was wondering is it possible to remove the text that appears under the desktop icons on the desktop? as i have a couple of pictures that i would like to use but they wouldnt look as good if i could see all the text from the desktop icons, thats why my desktop has a black picture and i then make the text colour black as well so it cant be seen. but my pictures arnt a single colour, they have multiple colours in them.

Its a neat trick I used to do in my old desktop, unfortunately it can be only done in a desktop unless you have a full 102 key USB keyboard attached....and has been done in XP and 2000 only....

You don't really need a desktop; you need a numeric keypad.
Actually, most laptops without a dedicated number pad have one that you can use with the Fn key. Hold down Fn (along with Alt in this case) and press the keys with the blue numbers... for my laptop, those keys are the 789UIOJKLM keys.

btw I just tried this trick in Vista (with my laptop keyboard) and it does work.

However, you can't have more than one shortcut in the same folder (desktop folder) with the same name. So for the second one, you have to type that invisible character twice... etc.

    Yep....it does work..in XP too..!!

But the 0160 trick doesnt work with the Fn key pressed....one would need an external keyboard with the numpad..!!

No, on my laptop it works with the Fn key... no real number pad. But instead of the regular number keys, you have to use the virtual number pad where Fn-J = 1, Fn-K = 2, etc. The numbers should be in blue on those keys. It's possible some laptop keyboards may not have the virtual number pad feature, I'm not sure that all of them have it. You also need to hold down Alt at the same time just like usual.
