I have Dell XPS M1330 with BIOS version A15. I reformatted my entire hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on a fresh partition. The windows installation process went well, but once it finishes and tried to reboot, I get the Dell boot logo, and then blank screen showing just a blinking underscore.

I have tried pressing the power button with Fn key pressed to run diagnostic boot and it indicates no problem.

What else can I try to fix the problem? Please help.

Ah I actually manage to find a solution:
    1. Insert windows 7 dvd / usb, restart and boot from it
    2. Click through language selection, and select System Repair
    3. Select open command prompt and run the command "bootrec /fixmbr" and "bootsect /nt60 all"

I think the solution above only work if you only have one OS on the entire system, otherwise it might mess up the boot record for other OS

I'd like to know why you had to jump through hoops to get a fresh install working properly. You might want to verify that all the necessary files were copied over; missing system .dll files can result in instability. Or you may have had one or more bad sectors on the drive that the files were being copied over to?

Was it working before hand? And what O/S was previously installed on there? Did you flash the right bios version? What is the Service tag of you model so other can at least lookup the specs to see what it is. But that blank screen sounds more like a bad install or dying HDD...
