I use O&O defrag (v 10.16.34) for defragmentation.(on windows Vista) I used it defragment and the fragmentation was 0.2% after it was full. A week later, after the whole process, it went up to 30 % and soon after to 50%. It just keeps increasing. No errors found in scandisk. BTW, it shows some files as being locked like hiberfil.sys, the SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION folder in c:\. Aslo, i use the complete/name method.
    Any suggestions?

You might need to have it always run as an administrator...it might be getting denied access to stuff.

That's not the problem. It seems the locked/immovable files are taking a lot of space. The two that I mentioned above. (hiberfil.sys, SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION)
I decided to put up the report generated by O&O here:

Do an offline defrag or defrag on reboot, whatever it's called in O&O.

I don't see why it's a problem that two big files are locked and can't be defragmented. Apart from everything else, hiberfil.sys is *not* actually fragmented, according to the report you showed.

Locked files are simply files that the OS keeps open for its own exclusive use. Nothing harmful in that. And no, your system performance is not determined by how fragmented hiberfil.sys is.

EDIT: Bah I should read further back than 1 post. As was mentioned...the two files I just wrote all those paragraphs on aren't even fragmented :p Nevermind then!

As mentioned above, set O&O to do a boot-time run ...make sure you check the options to defrag the page file and whatnot (if there is one..it's been a while since I tried OO out).

Another thing you might try after this is to clear your page file to 0, reboot, and then reallocate it in one block (make sure to custom set the minimum and maximum to the same value). The general rule of thumb is 1.5 times your RAM, but as you get more RAM the smaller your page file needs to be. There's also a cap to how much Windows can actually use, but it doesn't tell you and I can't remember.

Anyway, by preallocating a set amount of space for it, it'll no longer be fragmented in the future (assuming you had enough free space consolidated for it in one block :p)

For hiberfil.sys, I assume you actually use the hibernate function. In that case, hope that O&O can defrag it at boot-time. I know some defragmenters can and some can't. If you never hibernate, disable the option, and then you can just delete the file (back it up just in case :p).
