I use the Sothink Video Converter for that purpose. It can convert many movies at a time and it uses all cores/threads of the PC if you have a multiple core PC.

Handbrake should be able to do what you want as long as your devices support mp4 formats, also possible to queue files and also supports multiple threads. Personally, that's what i use to shrink my raw DVD files to mp4 or m4v if i want to play them on my ipod.

    DLing now...

just to clarify... I'm looking for a program like DVD shrink but can do multiple movies at once.

EDIT: neither of them will just compress the movies, only convert. :(

I think 99% of the programs will convert (re-encode) the movies to make them smaller.

TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 is one of the few programs that can compress (without converting) many movies at a time, but it is quite expensive (100$).

sry... I didn't word it right, I do NOT want to convert the movies, just compress them...

I'm looking for a program that will do what DVD shrink does, but has a que so I can walk away for a few hours while it compresses movies...

DVDshrink is buggy and only works 50% of the time :(

Nobody is listening to the OP ::facepalm::

Handbrake is H264 encoder it would "convert" the movies.

He wants to "shrink" the movie but keep it in its native format atleast thats the way he makes it sound. Usually the only reason to do this is to fit more than one movie onto a single dvd (but then you must author the movie) or to shrink a dual layer dvd onto a single layer disk (the sole purpose of dvd shrink originally)

If your do indeed wish to convert the files to a new format MeGUI is like Handbrake but better and is totally batch driven. I often que up 6 files and leave them while I am at work or sleeping.

You can convert them to a high quality H264 encode and always convert them back to dvd format when you author the dvd later and not notice the quality loss since its possible with H264 to encode virtually visually lossless while still beating dvd format 5 fold in terms of file size. Plus you get a awesome digital copy of the movie for backup on your HDD after you burn the larger dvd .iso

Personally I cant find any reason to use DVD Shrink, if I am going to bother keeping all the DVD originals and retain its normal format i would also want to retain all the original quality, and thus I would just buy some dual layer dvd's and not shrink the movie but just copy it.

He wasn't being very clear, so I guess I misunderstood his question. To me a conversion and compression can be one and the same unless we're talking about the mere removal of superfluous audio tracks and extras. One is often required when doing the other although I guess a conversion (without a lossy compression) is often considered lossless.

OP, are you asking for something that plays in a DVD player with full menus?

A conversion & compression can be one in the same.

But he stated that he does not want to convert only compress, aka compression with same file type & structure.

He also said just like dvd shrink, and that is what dvdshrink does is re encode the movie but keep the format and it can cut bonus scenes, and extra content to make room in addition to encoding the movie anew.

You could try running more than one instance of dvd shrink at a time :D it may work.
