what is everyone's pick for a free program to copy and burn dvd movies, of course copying your own dvds you bought and not a movie you rented because that would be illegal

lol...the illegal comment makes me wonder what you are going to do. ;)

I'm not sure about free, but if you want to invest in software, Nero is good for all types of burning.

Southerngirl! This news upsets me. To think that I would want a program to remove CSS is crazy talk.

Well you can use DVD decrypter to de-CSS YOUR movies, for the sole purpose of personal backups. After that you can just use nero and put the files created by dvd decrypter in the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD. I am not sure about this, but you may be able to find some free DVD writing software and then make a AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder, with .VOB files in VIDEO_TS. And burn the two folders on the root of the DVD. I haven't tried this, so i dont know it will work. It should work in theory. :)

I agree. I really don't trust the free burning software.

Why is that? I have used thousands of free programs which work fine...

gregrost i think your right, it is definately easier to just buy a copy of nero than to work with other, less efective programs.

I've been using: DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for quite a while. They're both freeware, and they get the job done. You can incorporate Nero Burning Rom into the equation, but DVD Decrypter can also burn the movie once DVD Shrink has worked it's magic.

But if you really just wanna waste some cash. I would recommend 1ClickDVDCopy. You'll have to use DVD43 to remove the encrytion so that 1ClickDVDCopy will make exact back-ups of your home movies.

for backuping movies there are so many good programs, but you really have to try some of them and than you can choose which is for you :)
i usually use nero and dvd fab platinum and i really don't need any other. so it really up to you which program to choose but nero is one of the best out there
