Have installed Vista as a custom install. i.e. Not an upgrade. When I look in C:\ I find a folder for a Philips MP3 player I have and two folders of data and files for a USB PIC Programmer I used with the previous installation.
How is that possible ? In all other respects it does seem like a clean install.

Did you format the drive? If not then all files that were there before should still be there.

    Hi,
No didn't format the drive. These are not "Windows old" files, these are three folders that seem to carry foward for some unknown reason. All other previous stuff gone as I would expect.

Why would you expect the files to be gone if you did not delete them or format the drive?

Because a custom install is supposed to be a clean install. It's just these odd folders, everything else is gone as expected. Or am I missing something :)

A 'clean install' would just install windows on top of and pretty much ignore what files are there, but it doesn't delete them.

I thought its impossible to clean instal Vista without a fomat?
    (save for upgrading)

But as namaiki said - unless the drive is formatted in any way, old files stay behind.
