I decided that illegally downloading music was wrong after a long time of doing so. I went to iTunes and started buying the songs/albums. The only problem is that I can't edit them because they are locked and .mp4. Does anyone know how I could get these to unlock or into .mp3? I looked all over and can't seem to find it.

What is the purpose of having them locked if I bought it? I need to take a couple songs and edit them to make a warm up CD for a basketball team. I have used audacity in the past, but it wont work with .mp4

I can convert the songs that are part of albums that I bought, but when I buy just one song I can't convert it (in iTunes).

Use Audacity to rerecord the songs. As long as you're not using Vista, you can set Audacity to record off of the stereo mix. Then just save as an .MP3

how can I rerecord the song. I am not all that great at this stuff. I can use audacity just to cut and fade and that's about it.

Go to "edit" then "Preferences" and click on "Audio I/O."

Make sure it is set to use your sound card as the recording device and click "OK."

Open up your volume control (the speaker on the taskbar), then click on Options -> Properties.

Under "Adjust volume for," click on "Recording," make sure that "Stereo Mix" is checked under "Show the following volume controls," and click "OK" (If recording is greyed out, change the mixer device to the input device).

On the recording volume control screen, put a check mark into "Stereo Mix."

Now you can use the "Record" button in Audacity to record any audio playing through your computer's speakers.
