I seem to find a lot of programs that will convert a PDF file to a Word Doc, but nothing that will convert a Word Doc to a PDF file. I need a program that will do this so that I can pull up a Word Doc (in PDF format) on my iPad. I don't mind paying for a good program (if it is under $50)...any ideas?

Plenty of nice programs that convert .doc to .pdf. Personally, I use Acrobat, but good free alternatives are doPDF (I've used this before; works great) and CutePDF Writer (have not tried this one, but it's also frequently recommended).

I am looking at Adobe's website and is the price for Acrobat really $450?

Microsoft Word 2007 (Office 2007) and later has the ability to save any Word Document as a PDF....

That's not the issue as my teachers post .doc files on Blackboard which I need to be able to then convert to a PDF and put into my Dropbox so that I can open the documents on my iPad 2

You don't have Word? Open file, print/save as PDF, done.

Ah, yes, forgot that saving as PDF is built into Office 2007 and 2010. That would be the simplest solution.

As others have suggested I use the built in PDF function of Word. But for apps that don't have it built in I use PDFlite. Only downside is it also installs a reader and assigns it as the default app to open PDF's. However it is very easy to switch back to Adobe Reader (or whatever you use) as the default.
