I searched the forum and didn't see a straight answer for this one. Sorry if is a repost.

I got my pavilion d4 over the weekend with vista home premium 64bit installed. I then bought the vista ultimate upgrade via my school bookstore's website. I got my shipment noticed today and it said its a 32 bit version??? Am I screwed? I didn't go into the "detailed spec" page where it said the sys requirement is 32bit. DOH

Anyway, I thought I read somewhere that installation disc can be use for both 32 or 64 bit upgrade. If its not true, I may be out 45 bucks (shipping+restocking) :( This Vista bit number business is so confusing to me. UGH.

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

So, if I read your post correctly, I may be able to download the Ultimate 64 bit software from MS site and use the 32bit key that come with the version I ordered?

Maybe I will contact Software to see I can get a 64-bit CD "without the key" cheaply. That way, I can have a 64bit CD for future re-install when issues surface, if there are any. Man, I love this new laptop but its a lot of post work. Once I figure out this OS issue, I will move on to searching for firewall, antivirus, spy/ad stuff. LOL

Okay, I spoke to Microsoft and I am even more confused. Instead of spend $$ to order Installation DVD, I will pay the same amount (stocking fee+shipping) to return the software.

    Some referece...
    * Microsoft sales said: license key can be used for 64bit and I can order a replacemenet media from Microsoft

    * Microsofe tech support said: talk to refund department and ship my DVD to them. Then, I can order another upgrade DVD from them.

    * Microsoft email service just emailed me: " .... I would recommend that first you contact JourneyEd Support team and return the 32 bit edition of Windows Vista Ultimate that you receive. No, you cannot use 32 bit edition of Windows Vista Ultimate to activate Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition.

You can purchase upgrade copy of Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition online from Microsoft at the following web link: http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/details.aspx?view=info&itemid=6008001
You can also order a DVD for Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition."

Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes.. oh forget it.... I can't take the chance of not able to return my upgrade DVD after 14 days.
