I need help. The cpu in question is the following:
HP HDX X18T-1200 CTO Premium Notebook PC
    running Windows Vista home premium.
My specs are 8gb raM 64 bit
    2.5 dual core
    1 tb processor

when I boot it it gets bsod on the log in screen.
The Consumer IR Devices driver is missing.
People online say to uninstall it and I tried to uninstall it to let it reinstall its self and that did not help.
People say to disable it but I tried to disable it but it re enables its self when I reboot and once again appears missing. I tried deleting the vista update people say causes this problem (kb973879) and it did nothing.

The fellow whose said he tried to install an old computer game and that's when it started. I don't want to restore windows cause I have too much data to backup that I don't want to loose and programs I don't want to loose.

    *solved*

Sounds like you stumbled onto lesson #1 in the computer biz: adequate backup...

I have no idea how to fix your problem, but I'd suggest you hook up your hard drive to another computer and offload your user data. That way, if you have to reinstall windows, you can at least restore/carry over your data.

Fiddling around with corrupted hard drives usually doesn't end nicely, so better to save what you can, while you can...

Well it's not my computer, I'm trying to help out somebody I know. And I have an external HD but it won't install in safe mode (A seagate free agent desk 1.5 gb) so I can't back up the data... Plus I'm 99% sure the problem is the OS so plugging the HD into another computer would only make the other computer blue screen which just brings me back to square one (plus the only other one I have is my gaming laptop, which I will not plug in a hard drive that has any chance of messing up my expensive laptop) would just make the other computer blue screen on start up. At this point I'm looking for any ideas to backup the data OR fix it...

AMATX means attach the bad hard drive as a secondary hard drive to either a laptop that has the capacity for 2 hard drives, or to a desktop where you would leave the working boot drive in and have the 'bad' hard drive as a 2nd hard drive (you may need an adapter), then it would be easy to backup to an external or even the primary drive.

From what I read here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebooks-desktops-sale/452295-asus-g60vx-rbb05-fs-ft-2.html
your laptop has the capacity for a 2nd hard drive, as long as you boot from the original nothing will get fubared.
Have to ask , where did you get that user name and how did the moderators approve it???

Yeah but I only have a 500GB Hard drive anyway, and I'm using 200GB and I need at least 350GB and I don't have that much room left on mine. And for all I know this has a virus or something... and even if it won't hurt my laptop, it's my baby and won't let another HD touch it XD.

But I just realized, the OS is on a different hard drive (there are 2 500GB installed) than the data. Could I just reformat the 1st hard drive and leave the second (with the data) intact?

And about the name... it's an inside joke with a friend.

A couple different internet posts indicate success disabling the Graphics and/or Network driver
