I left my laptop on overnight (sig) downloading a steam game. This morning I woke the computer up and it would not connect to my wireless network I had to restart the computer twice and my router once. I also had to restart my server for it to see it.
So the wierd part is when browsing my server (Acer windows 2003 with windows home server) just browsing a file tree (IE opening music/rap/D12) at each steo can take 10-20 second and loading a song into windows media player can cause it to freeze.

My other laptops navigate the server as if they were local ffolders/files.
Also when I open a new tab in IE8 the first new tab just says connecting. then the I have to open a second tab which works fine. IE8 won't close unless I ctrl alt delete it.

I have Norton 2009 internet security and its uptodate. I'm just running a full system scan right now.
I've also just loaded anti-malware bytes and an am going to run a scan.

3D applications like furmark are still benching the same so I don't get the feeling its a virus eating up resources.

I left the computer alone doing norton and malware bytes and the server issue seems to have taken care of it's self.
I un-installed Bing toolbar and now IE is more responsive.

You should 'Reset' IE8 to it's defaults. And also look for any 'add-ons' that might be slowing things down.

    * I would do this the long way. Close all IE windows if necessary. Open Task Manager and under processes make sure no ' iexplore' processes are running. If there are End them. Now go to Control Panel --> Internet Options. Under the 'Advance' tab press Reset Advanced Settings and also 'Reset'. Choose yes at the prompt to reset Home Page.

Under the General tab there should only be one line/address in the section for Home Page to prevent the issue for multiple tabs opening at start up of IE.

    * As for add-ons those can be found under Internet Options as well; under the Programs tab select Manage add-ons. On the left make sure it's set to 'show all' mode. Then go through the list of add-ons and look for any one that may look fishy. You could also disable all if you have to, to find which is causing the issue and gradually re-enable them.

As for a Virus protection program; I personally trust Avira free. I would give that a try and see what's found. (Malware Bytes is good for detecting malware and the like as well)

And yes, some of those toolbars would definitely slow the browser down so uninstalling the unescessary ones is a good idea to speed things up.

thanks for all the advice Makaveli72.

For future refrence incase anyone one stumbles upon this in the future. My computer acted fine for a few days, which were mostly spent away from "home".

Then having been home for 10 minutes the problems came back.

Finally I discounted my Blue-tooth logitech keyboard. So I went from Wi-Fi, logitech cordless mouse, Dinovo keyboard (blue-tooth), cell phone (usally sitting around laptop). To not having the keyboard even powered up and it seems my wifi problems and IE problems have all gone away.

I like Avira, but I was at a friends computer shop helping on a computer that clearly had a virus and Avira got disalbed as did some other virus scaners. So finally we put the HDD in the owners computer who was running Norton Internet Security 2009 and it picked up the virus right away, and was able to block and remove it. Not to mention I love the way Norton will run a scan on a idle core.
