Hey guys... I am really bored with XP Windows interface.
I used Ubuntu before, but was forced to switch back because of compatability issues. But it just felt so clean and efficient.

Is their anything or way out there to dramatically change the whole look and feel of XP without hogging massive ammount of memory? Or is that not possible?

What are my options? I like the way OSX looks as well. But id also like something that is completely stable

Royale Noir provides a nice, officially signed alternative. I've run it occasionally; had Royale running earlier today.

You also could make your own themes in the Windows Classic interface. Go to Display>Apperance, change "Windows and buttons" to Windows Classic style, and then click the Advanced button. From there you can change the colors however you like. True, it's just the same as you had back in Windows 98, but you can customize it pretty easily. I have a nice scarlet-and-gray OSU theme on my other computer.

There's Blackbox; it's similar to fluxbox for linux. Very minimalistic interface, extremely customizable, but it takes quite a bit of work to get it set up good. You can't make it all shiny with effects and such; the appearance is very simplistic.
    Mine looks like this:

You might also try LiteStep, which is meant to be Windows native. It's really lightweight... I used to use it in college, but then I got completely hooked on Linux, and haven't looked back. Don't need to spend time customizing an OS I rarely boot into ;)

    Thanks guys.
Yeah, i know about changin my themes. have done so many times, but its just not hitting the spot.

To be honest, i have only played with Vista a couple times in a store. Is the interface really that much better? and does that theme require a ton of RAM like the Vista OS itself? Ive only got 1GB in my comp.

And where are those calanders and clocks coming from that i see in a lot of screen shots? are they part of the pack? or a seperate program?

    Thanks!

It’s a resource hog especially if you use transparent effects. I’d stay away from that and Window blinds purely for performance reasons.

LiteStep and BlackBox are about it. Keep your eyes on KDE4 though, its rumoured to have a Windows port in the works.
