To format and reinstall Windows again, you have to use the recoverydisc that came with the notebook. Notebook manufacturers don't send out full OEM Windows XP CD's out anymore. The recovery disc contains all the drivers, and perhaps the bloatware, although I am not sure, as some manufacturers include it and some don't.

The recovery disc is practically the same as the full Windows XP disc, so if you wish to format, its the same procedure that is used to format a normal computer.

You can usually use another Windows MCE disc and your laptop's license key to do a clean install, but you'll want to get instructions from the ASUS forum because it's often not easy and you'll want advice from users who've done that on the same/similar notebook before.

Call and ask for the XP MCE install disk. Quite often a quick call to tech support is all that's needed to get the MCE disk in the mail.

You can't use a retail version with the OEM license key, at least not usually. Perhaps if it's an OEM install disk that key might work.
