    Hello all,

I am hoping there is a way to change/disable some keyboard shortcuts in Vista. I make use of plenty of good ones, but I have run into a problem with overlap. In many programs (Adobe ones, for example), ctrl+shift+S controls the 'Save As' command, but in Vista this seems to open up a System Information screen- interesting to look at every now and then, but I would much rather have my 'Save As' command back. Any help? I couldn't find anything in hunting around. Thanks.

Check out AutoHotkey...you can accomplish virtually anything if you're willing to mess with it.

P.S. Ctrl+Shift+S doesn't do anything for me (as in no system screen pop-ups)...unless I'm running a program that recognizes it.

You know, I saw that but it looked too hard :) I was hoping there would be something obvious and easy. Now that I look again, my system info thing looks like an HP program (I have a dv5). Maybe there is something I need to uninstall from the program list? I'd rather not break anything, though...

I'm not too familiar with HPs, never actually used them in the past several years. I know that HP, Toshiba, and Gateway are pretty big on making proprietary system-wide apps in some form or another. That's probably exactly what's happening though. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find an options menu embedded in that program that let's you define Keyboard Shortcuts or Global Keyboard Shortcuts.

I talked to a guy at HP, and he said ctrl+shift+S is the default setting for system information and there is no way to change it. I guess AutoHotKey is my only option... thanks for the link.

Well, I probably don't know what I'm doing, but I can't figure out if AutoHotKeys will let me assign a combination to 'do nothing'- I don't want anything to happen when I hit ctrl+shift+S (I'm guessing this is the only way to keep HP System Information from opening?), but maybe that's not going to fix this. Man, this is a real pain- someone out there with an HP must have run into this (or is it only the fact that I also use Adobe software A LOT and am used to having that command available?).

HP isn't going to tell you how to disable it, but I finally figured it out! Go to Start->All Programs->HP and right click on HP System Information. Go to Properties and you will see a section for "Shortcut Key". Just delete what's in there. That's it!

Wow, now that was easy! Thanks so much, you've rescued my 'save as' command! HP owes you a paycheck.

That shortcut was not in my HP folder in the Start menu. The way I fixed it was to rename the HPSI.exe application itself, reboot and press the Ctrl+Shft+S shortcut when at the Desktop. A dialog box appeared stating that the system could not find the file and that it was searching for it. I let it search and eventually another dialog appeared asking if I wanted to repair the shortcut or delete it. I chose to delete it and now the SaveAs command works as it should! I spent about three hours on the support chat with various HP people trying to figure it out and we eventually gave up. I'm SO relieved to have everything the way it should be in my Adobe apps.

Okay...so what you do is go into the "my computer" place, then from there in the search box tyoe 'system information." Once the search is complete, RIGHT CLICK on the link that says "HP system information" once the box pops up click on the "shortcuts" tab and just clear the box that says "ctrl+shift+s" click apply and you should be able to use that shortcut as save now. :)
