Don't know if anyone has brought this up or not but use this amazing program to change your logon background. It's 100% safe and was designed for Windows 7. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use the Vista Logon Studio through Stardock, it wasn't designed for 7 and messed up my computer.

Yes, I use that one....amazing program which comes with a lot of nice wallpapers to use for logon.
-
Amazing backgrounds! I will definitely use one of them when I get Windows 7. Do you happen to know if the wallpapers are copyrighted?
-
I know this very well, OP.
That bloody Stardock Logon Studio screw-up my System causing the Logon Screen can't be change anymore.
Anyone who want to change their Windows 7 Logon Screen beware of Logon Studio Vista. -
site's not loading for me
but im guessing it just rotates your images through the system32\oob\info\backgrounds folder? -
-
However, I have no problem with it since I love to re-format my laptop.
LOL. -
I use the Tweak Logon program.

Great program! Can someone shoot me a link to a good, SAFE place that has some good screensavers and such? I always see some cool stuff on people's computers, but some of those places can be a little dangerous.

Excellent, i've been looking for something like this for a while now. Unfortunatly it doesnt support image resizing because some pics i wanted to use were really badly chopped off.
But still i'm happy with this
Thanks -

Is there a real reason why its limited to 245KB for a file size?
-
The software is not needed:
C:\Windows\System32\oobe\background.bmp is where you find the default background.
In the registry do the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background]
"OEMBackground"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
"UseOEMBackground"=dword:00000001
Then do the following:
Save the custom .jpg image you want to use to the desktop with the name backgroundDefault.jpg.
WARNING: The custom image that you use must be a .jpg image less than 256 KB in size, or this will not work.
Open Paint, and click on the File icon (top left corner), Open, and navigate to and select the .jpg image.
In Paint, click on Resize, dot Pixels, uncheck Maintain aspect ratio, then resize the .jpg image to your screen resolution size. Then save your file.
WARNING: The custom image that you use must be a .jpg image less than 256 KB in size, or this will not work. The backgroundDefault.jpg image will be Streched to Fit and used by default if Windows 7 cannot find or use the correct screen resolution image file created in this step. These are the only sizes supported by the log on screen.
* background768×1280.jpg
* background960×1280.jpg
* background900×1440.jpg
* background1024×768.jpg
* background1024×1280.jpg
* background1280×768.jpg
* background1280×960.jpg
* background1280×1024.jpg
* background1360×768.jpg
* background1440×900.jpg
* background1600×1200.jpg
* background1920×1200.jpg
When done, close Paint.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to
C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds.
NOTE: If you do not have any of these folders (ex: info and backgrounds usually), then create a new folder for the missing folder and rename it to the missing folder's name. If you are prompted by UAC when creating and renaming the folders, just click on Yes to approve.
Copy and Paste the .jpg files from step 11, and from step 6 into the C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds folder, then close the window. (See screenshot below)
You're logon screen is now changed. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Del to test it. Click on Cancel to return to the desktop.
NOTE: You can now delete the .reg and .zip files on the desktop if you like.
You can now hide the file extensions again if you like.
Depending on how light or dark your background image is, you may want to change the log on screen text shadow to make it look better as well.

^ You can do that, but why bother with those if it can be done with some simple clicks??? It's not like it costs you anything.
