    Change Product Key option disabled

    I am trying to re-type and update my product key for Windows Ultimate, but after right clicking properties on my computer, i cant click the "change product key" or "activate windows now" links....any suggestions?

    Start then right click computer. Then click propteries. Then look at windows Activated at the bottem

    Translation: I didn't bother to read anything in junknstuff's post and I'm just posting this to get my post count up.

    Maybe you're on a permission limited account in Vista...guest account maybe? Try using the Administrator account---you'll need to manually activate that account in Vista---and doing so from there. Yes, do this even if your default account has admin privileges.

    If you still can't get it to work, follow this link and contact Microsoft product support.

    may i ask how i go about accessing the root/admin acct? i only have one acct set up right now

    gator, i did it through admin acct but that didnt seem like it did the trick =/ perhaps i'll go back to OEM premium....

    Hmm not sure what to tell you. You could try the support link in the first post. Just make sure you're not paying for something you won't be able to use.

    yessir. i'll also try to give them a call tmorrow to see if they can do it over the phone. hear its possible to do it that way. thanks gator!
