Did you verify all of the necessary email settings that Bell South requires were set correctly?

Seems like your ISP requires you to authenticate to their SMTP server for outgoing mail. You should contact Bell South Support for help.

And this thread does no belong in the Dell forum.

Contact your ISP and ask them what the setup is supposed to be for your email.

It should be setup as a POP3 server with incoming set to "mail.bellsouth.net" and your incoming set to "mail.bellsouth.net". Don't check box called "Secure Password Authorization.

Fill in your email address and password and check box "remember password".

On the Advanced tab---do not check either secure connection box (SSL) and enter 25 for Outgoing (SMTP) and 110 for Incoming (SMTP)

Well, it's hard to say without knowing exactly how your account is set up. Is there a help page on Bell South that can walk you through it screen by screen?

I'd review all of your account settings and sure that the incoming and outgoing server names are correct, that you're using port 25 for outgoing and port 110 for incoming. Make sure SSL is UNchecked. Another wildcard is if your outgoing server requires authentication. Some do, some don't. You need to know and set your client appropriately. Obviously make sure you account name is formatted correctly.

Can you ping mail.bellsouth.net from a command prompt and get a reply?

EDIT: Sorry Jakpro. Didn't mean to duplicate your suggestions. Must have been typing at the same time.

Check your settings with your ISP.

Why was this moved to the Dell forum?

Sorry, please move to appropriate forum.

Thanks, all your suggestions have been checked and rechecked. I contacted bellsouth and I seriously don't know where they find their tech support reps. They are pretty much clueless.

Ok, finally figured it out. the email i'm trying to use is with Bellsouth and the ISP i'm connected to is Atlantic Broadband. When I change the smtp settings to Atlantic Broadband's i'm able to send with out any issues.
